As an upcoming interior designer, I am learning more and more everyday the importance and affordability of green design! Initially, "green" products are typically pricier than "non-green" (if you will) products, however, over time, you are getting much more for your dollar. For example, front loader washer and dryers. First of all, they are extremely energy efficient and they come in a variety of colors/finishes. Here is one I found that in the HGTV 2010 Green House Giveaway Sweepstakes. The bold hue of the red finish on these front loaders with slate finished walls really complimented these laundry space. Also, keep in mind that EVERYTHING in this house is environmentally friendly...i.e. the paint on the wall is low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), green hardware and fixtures along with the solid granite counter tops which of course...is all natural! :)
At first, although green design was beneficial it certainly was not very aesthetically pleasing, however it has really improved over the past year or so. I encourage you to take advantage of it and think innovatively by using more "green" products.
Keep designing to stand out and share how you have designed with green in mind!
