Consigned furniture was and STILL is a brilliant idea!

One of the many things I have learned in terms of design, specifically referring to furniture millwork is that time adds so much character to furniture. With that in mind, I encourage you to start thinking outside the box! Next time you are in need of a furniture whether it be as simple as a small end table or an entire bedroom set, try visiting some local furniture consignment shops; it is amazing the kind of treasures one can get their hands on in places like that. If you are ever passing through Birmingham, I know of a ton! Plus, it makes the shopping so much more invigorating especially when you find that piece that you pictured in your mind, but yet never actually thought you would find it without building it yourself. For example, when I decided to move off campus 2 years ago, I need a whole bedroom set and for some odd reason, I wanted an old picket fence as my headboard. Well...that was just what I got from Consigning Interiors here in Pelham, AL. It was a white picket fence first used in a garden, then used as a headboard in fellow designer's guest room, then it made it's way to Consigning Interiors and as you can see it is now a black picket fence in my room! When I first laid my eyes on this piece, I just couldn't believe it, it was perfect! Had it not been so functional to encase a garden, previously used in a guest room and then off to collect dust in a store, I don't think I would have wanted it, plus all these factors determined it's durability. For me, it was all about the story behind the piece that determined it's true value! Sound corny? Well of course it does, but hey, to each its own! :)

So next time you're in need of some pieces of furniture or if you are just looking to window shop, explore some of your local furniture consignment shops! Whether you find what you're looking for or not, it will at least be an adventure that won't leave you disappointed! :)

Design to stand out and I would love to see what kind of treasures you find!
